Manufactured in 1953 in Belgium, this is a beautiful example of a Pre-Olympian F.N. Mauser Presentation Grade factory engraved bolt action rifle. At the time of manufacture these rifles were the finest made for "over the counter" sales and were made in limited quantities. All featured F.N. deluxe sculptured relief engraving which was a true work of art in the Renaissance manner, which cover the receiver ring and bridge, trigger guard and floor plate. This rifle has a blue barrel and grey remaining parts. The receiver features beautiful relief engraved floral vine and the mythological Griffin on each side of the receiver ring. The same relief engraving is on the trigger guard and hinged floor plate, both also featuring the Griffin. There is a 1 3/4 inch wedge of the same design on top of the breech end of the barrel. The barrel is fitted with a hooded ramped front sight and three leaf rear sight with two folding leaves and one fixed leaf. The front folding leaf is marked "200" the other "300". The bolt assembly is bright with a jeweled extractor and the bolt release is niter blue. The rifle is mounted with choice French walnut with multi-point checkering, black grip cap, solid recoil pad and sling swivels. As on all of these Presentation Grade rifles the checkering, finish and engraving were entrusted only to the finest artisans of Liege.
