Experimental commercial model .50 caliber centerfire rolling block pistol with 10” round barrel, saw handle, blue and case hardened finish, no serial numbers, refer Remington Rolling Block Pistols by Jerry Landskron page 154, where this example is illustrated three times. In June of 1870 the Army released a report of trials on Remington Rolling Block pistols held at St. Louis arsenal and recommendations were made that pistols and revolvers should have saw handles, hence this factory experimental. The pistol remains in original near fine condition with 80-90% original blue on barrel, evenly thinning at toning. The frame shows 80-90% case hardening that is dulling slightly with some still vivid and iridescent hues. The small parts and breech shows most of their bright original color. The commercial grade burl walnut stocks are very good plus, just some slight staining from handling and oil, some slight scratches. The markings are sharp on left side of frame. The action tight, bore very good but shows some erosion and has been shot and tested. The quality of the workmanship is flawless and undoubtedly factory. Provenance: “Red” Jackson, R. Gooding, Jerry Landskron collection. Est: $4,000
