This is an example of a rare Colt Woodsman experimental prototype pistol that was kept at the factory. The pistol is absent of any markings except for the serial number "GX-704" marked on the right side of the frame. The barrel is fitted with a ramp for the front sight and the rear of the slide has the dovetail cut-out for the rear sight. Serrated trigger, Colt marked blue magazine and fitted with smooth walnut grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies serial number GX-704 as 22 LR caliber, "6 1/2 inch barrel-without markings, excepting GX serial number", "Smooth oil-finished walnut stocks without rampant colt logo.". Special features listed as: "Includes a thumb actuated slide stop and safety, made prior to 1978" and lists the Maroon Heritage of Craftsmanship box with the "end label including handwritten serial number" and "experimental." Complete with the original maroon box with Custom Shop label numbered to the gun.
