Exhibition quality silver mounted flintlock horseman’s size holster pistol signed “Lamotte Aine (the younger) a St. Etienne”. The pistol measures 20” overall with a nearly 13” barrel of approx. 68 caliber smoothbore; the barrel, hammer, rear of lockplate and frizzen are chiseled in high relief with gold damascene accents. The mounts are hallmarked and show high relief figural scenes of arms, flags, armor, cannon and other militarymotifs. The stock is nicely wire inlaid with plaque work in the form of an urn at the wrist of the stock; metal surfaces remain in very good + to near fine condition with normal aging, minor erosion and pinprickpitting, traces of original finish drifting to brown and an overall untouched and uncleaned patina. The lock remains in its original configuration with all correct parts including top jaw and etc. The stock is also very good + with slight normal aging, minute losses, slight scratches and a small amount of wire inlay missing; an original to the period ramrod is retained; horn tipped; the silver mounts are very crisp and have not
