Exhibition quality ornately gold inlaid full side lock double barrel shotgun by John Wilkes, 79 Beak Street, London in its original deluxe leather over oak case with canvas cover. The gun shows 28" barrels,double triggers, auto ejectors, nitro proofed for 2-3/4 in shells and marked 3-1/4 tons. Both barrels are choked modified. The barrels measure Left .25 & Right .30 thickness. The stock measures 14-1/2" to the checkered wood butt and stock dimensions are Lop 14-1/2", heel 2-3/8", comb 1-1/2. The locks and barrels are finely relief gold inlaid in inter twining scrolls and floral motifs. The backgrounds are nicely scrollaccented and the gold is very profuse extending onto the barrels, bottom of frame, trigger guard, lever and fences. The stock is of select extra burl walnut with a profuse grain. The condition is excellent with just slight possible use 98-99% plus. The stock is also excellent with no signs of use. Even the serial #1938 is gold inlaid on the tang and on the inside of fore end with every attention to ornamentation and detail thru
