Exhibition quality DuMonthier style percussion knife pistol circa 1850’s to 60’s with ornate cast silver or German silver grip showing knight in armor on right, French soldier on left, surrounded by fancy scrolls. The blade is fully etched to the tip and shows scrolls and small panels of cavaliers towards tip. The pistol measures 10” overall with approx. 6-1/4” blade. Each barrel approx. 2-5/8” of .32 caliber, and the top of the guard acts as a hammer in typical DuMonthier style, but no provision for triggers. Apparently made to rest on a cap and snap fired by spring tension. The blade, barrels, and hilt show a grey to brown patina, some light scattered erosion. The German silver grips are very good and sharp. A period leather scabbard is included, with a German silver throat and brass tip, and shows a period addition of ferrules to hold a ramrod which made perfect sense. The scabbard is in good condition and a unique oddity which is different from any other DuMonthier style we have seen, and certainly the fanciest in this small size. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
