One of only 276 manufactured between 1900 and 1910, the Number Three 38 Winchester Revolver is Smith & Wesson's 44 caliber frame outfitted to fire the 38-40 Winchester Center Fire cartridge, a necked-down version of the 44-40. Introduced as a multi-purpose round with lower recoil than the 44-40, the 38-40 remains in use today with Cowboy Action shooters, giving it a 130 year service life. Patridge blade front and adjustable "U" notch rear sights, with the two line address and patent dates on the rib, "38 WINCHESTER CTG." on the left side of the barrel, matching numbers on the barrel, cylinder and butt. Casehardened hammer and trigger, with checkered walnut target grips.
