Exceptional and original untouched iron frame Henry rifle, serial number 170 showing considerable original bright blue and case hardening considered by knowledgeable collectors in the best handful known. The barrel and magazine tube show 50% to 70% original blue that is evenly drifting and toning with some bright blue in the groove and where protected. The balance is nicely aging to a natural and even patina. The edges are razor-sharp and the barrel address is fully legible. The frame is also sharp and shows a light natural aging with some traces of color within its patina. The hammer and lever show traces of case hardening where protected. The rear sight is graduated to 1000 yards and is the correct early type. The stock shows 80% to 90% original varnish and is a nice light color and not oil stained, there is some scratching and mars with a couple of dents which are all mostly in the varnish. The wood to metal fit is impeccable and the stock and butt plate match. The action works well and is tight, the bore is still bright and the rifle has seen little use. John R. Gangel our expert and cataloger of this arm has sold it twice previously in the last 44 years and would give this iron frame #170 his best personal recommendation. “This is the type rifle true collectors love to find as it is beyond question and completely authentic”. Keith and Lori Candee Collection. Est.: $80,000-$160,000.
