This is an exceptional example of an original late 1942 production G 33/40 Mountain carbine that was manufactured by the Bruno factory in Czechoslovakia. These carbines were the German version of the Czech VZ33 carbine, that was manufactured on the small ring, light weight 98K Mauser action with a smaller, lighter weight barrel and stock. They were specifically intended for the Mountain troops and were used by other units on a limited basis. The top of the receiver is marked with a single "eagle/63" proof over "dot", the wartime code for the BRNO factory, over "1942", and the left side of the receiver has the serial number and single Eagle firing proof, the side wall is marked "G33/40". The top of the bolt handle is marked with an eagle firing proof and the underside is marked "N7". It has the standard inverted 'v" front sight with the sheet metal front sight cover with the adjustable rear tangent sight marked from 1-10 meters, (100-1000). This example has the last version of stock and hand guard used on these carbine which is the wartime laminated version, and the stock has the sheet metal plate in front of the butt plate to protect it from damage while in use, along with a cupped butt plate. The underside of the stock has the matching serial number (840d) stamped over a single eagle/63 Waffenamt proof. This carbine is complete with an original unmarked pebble-grain leather sling and original cleaning rod.
BBL: 19 inch
Stock:
Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 840d
Condition: Exceptional condition with 99% plus of the original wartime blued finish with minor edge and high spot wear overall, with clear, sharp markings. The stock and hand guard are also in excellent condition with a nice darker matching color overall, with clear stock proofs on the underside. There are only a couple of minor handling marks, with a couple of minor rough spots, one directly behind the receiver tang and the other one is directly at the rear edge of the stock cutout, both old and may have been slight defects in the wood. This carbine has all matching numbers on the bolt and stock with everything else correctly unnumbered. An extraordinary example of an all original, like new G33/40 Mountain carbine. Almost impossible to find in this condition.
