Manufactured circa 1897, measuring 54 3/8 inches wide, 41 1/2 inches high including the 4 inch oak frame, with glass front. The top of the frame has a relief carved raised decorative gesso panel with raised 2 1/8 inch high lettering reading "TRADE U.M.C. MARK" and the bottom, "THE UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO." The display features every cartridge UMC manufactured from the BB cap to the 1 inch Gatling cartridge, and 20 lead bullets of various caliber. Nicely arranged around a diamond in the center of the board that has a painted mountain scene with elk superimposed over the U.M.C. mark. The cartridges are in categories, "Rim-Fire", "Central Fire Pistol," and "Sporting and Military." Along the bottom is a display of paper and brass shotgun shells, exploder shells and friction cannon primers flanking a separately boxed display of percussion caps, primers and gun wads. The bottom of the display reads "FACTORY: BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U.S.A. CARTRIDGE MACHINERY/GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS. STORES: NEW YORK AND SAN FRANCISCO". Information provided by the consignor states that this board "hung in a place of honor in Hanyan Hardware for over 50 years. Ves was a major ammunition dealer in the State of Iowa around the turn of the Century."

Condition: Excellent. The frame has had a light coat of varnish applied some time ago. All of the items in the display remain attached and the lithograph and markings remain excellent with some of the lighter markings a bit sun faded. An exceptionally nice Remington UMC cartridge board.
