Manufactured by the Providence Tool Company and developed and tested during the Civil War, the Peabody Carbine entered production after the end of the war, with significant quantities purchased by Connecticut and South Carolina as well as many foreign countries. This example has a folding rear sight graduated to 600 yards and a saddle ring staple with ring mounted on the left side. Most of the components have single letter inspector initials. The left side of the receiver has the 1862 patent marking over the three line address marking. "U" marked barrel band with smooth forearm and straight grip stock. The left side of the wrist has a "WG" inspector cartouche.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains 97% plus original blue finish showing some minor thinning. The receiver retains 98% plus vivid original case colors. The wood is also excellent with a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Appears unissued.
