Condition: Fine.The revolver retains 40% of the original finish and has light-moderate handling wear with some flash pitting on the percussion nipples, rear of the cylinder and sides of the hammer. 30% of the blue and casehardened finish is present on the, loading lever, frame and hammer. The cylinder has a dark patina and retains nearly all of the Texas Navy scene. The trigger guard has nearly all of the silver-plated finish; the backstrap has some handling wear. The grip is excellent with 90% of the piano finish; wear is limited to some minor handling and storage marks. The engraving is crisp and deep. All of the markings are sharp. The action functions perfectly. The case and accessories are good. The case exterior retains most of the high polish finish; there are several hair-line cracks in the lid. The fine, original interior lining is slightly faded and the bottom of the case has compression marks and some minor stains from contact with the revolvers and accessories. There are several minor tears in the lining from contact with revolver front sight pins and hammer spurs but no significant damage. The two smaller powder flasks, the two iron bullet molds and the cartridge packets are all very good-near excellent with only light handling and storage wear. The navy size flask is good overall with about 30% of the lacquer finish, The .28 caliber, brass bullet mold is good with moderate handling wear. Both of the cap tins are good overall with moderate handling wear. The R.L Wilson letter that accompanies this set describes it as: "One of the very ultimate rarities in the collecting of Colt firearms-". The Wilson letter further states: "-this extraordinary set belongs in the most discriminating private or public arms collection". This unique set would be the centerpiece of the most advanced collection of Colt firearms.
- B) The Model 1849 Pocket Revolver has a 4-inch, .31 caliber, barrel. The five-shot cylinder roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene and "COLTS PATENT". The barrel and cylinder are blued, the loading lever, frame and hammer are case-hardened and the brass trigger guard and backstrap are silver-plated. The grip has a high polish piano finish. The top of the barrel is hand-engraved "Saml Colt" in Old English letters surrounded by engraved flourishes. "COLTS/PATENT" is hand engraved in a scroll-work panel on the left side of the frame. The full serial number, "62131" is stamped on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and side of the cylinder. The lever is stamped with the partial serial number "2131". All of the visible serial numbers match. A punch-dot is stamped below the serial number on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. The revolver is engraved with Gustave Young's Germanic scrollwork on a punch-dot background. The deluxe engraving includes the sides of the loading lever, ends of the wedge and screw heads. A fanciful animal head is partially concealed in the scrollwork on the left side of the lug and the sides of the hammer are engraved with a wolf head motif. Three small dots are stamped on the hammer spur. This specific Colt M1849 did not originate with the set as number 165375 in the number listed on the August, 27 1961 Wadsworth Athenevm Loan Receipt to Herb Glass.

Condition: Very good. The revolver retains traces of the original, blue, casehardened and silver-plated finish. The barrel has a blue-gray patina on exposed surfaces with traces of finish in protected areas. The cylinder has a silver-gray patina with sharp Stagecoach Holdup scene. There is moderate flash pitting on the percussion nipples, rear face of the cylinder and sides of the hammer. Most of the casehardened finish remains on the loading lever, frame and hammer. The trigger guard and backstrap retain at least 90% of the silver-plated finish. The grip is very fine and retains nearly 90% of the piano finish with some scattered, minor, handling marks. The engraving is crisp.
- C) The Model 1855 Sidehammer Pocket Revolver has a .28 caliber, 3 1/2-inch, octagon barrel and five-shot cylinder roll-engraved with the Cabin and Indian scene. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the "1855" dated legend with pointing hand.The serial number, "5523" is stamped on the underside of the barrel, cylinder and butt. The revolver is blued with a casehardened hammer and loading lever. The one-piece grip is fancy grain walnut with a piano finish. The loading lever, barrel, frame and hammer are deluxe engraved with Germanic scrollwork on a punch-dot background.

Condition: Fine as partially refurbished (cylinder). The revolver has 50% of the original high polish blue finish. Most of the blue finish is present on protected areas of the barrel and frame. The brown cylinder has a dark patina with half of the scene visible, moderate-heavy flash pitting on the percussion nipples and nipple cut-outs. The hammer has half of the faded casehardened finish with flash pitting on the face and sides. The grip is very fine with 85% of the piano finish and some minor handling marks. The engraving is sharp and deep. The action functions fine.
