Exceptional Rosewood Cased Factory Engraved Sharps Model 1A Four Barrel Pepperbox Pistol with Access
Made between 1859 and 1874. The sides and bottom of the frame feature scroll factory engraving, with a geometric pattern at the rear of the frame. The barrels are brown striped in an irregular pattern like on some Henry Philadelphia Derringers (same city of manufacture, probably same people). The left side of the frame is marked "C. SHARPS / PATENT 1859" and the right side "C SHARPS & Co. / PHILADA, PA". Blue barrels, silver plated frame and fitted with floral carved Gutta Percha grips. The bottom of the barrel is numbered "39085". Complete with a partitioned hardwood case with red velvet lining, oiler, cleaning rod and a 50 count box of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. 22 short bullets.
BBL: 2 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 22 RF
Finish: blue/silver
Grips: Gutta Percha
Serial Number: 40032
Condition: Excellent. The barrels retain much of the brown striping with smooth gray patina on the balance. The frame retains 98% of the original silver plating with some minor wear on upper left side and the finish is beginning to darken with age on the butt and grip straps. The grips are excellent showing very little wear and only light handling marks. The markings are fading along the upper edges, otherwise clear. The barrel retaining spring and release are weak but work. The action functions fine. The case remains very fine with the lid being slightly warped and the felt on the bottom is half intact. The lining is fine.
