Introduced in 1949, this particular shotgun was produced by the Remington Custom Shop, and bears the "E" initial of Carl Ennis among the engraving. The F, or Premier, grade was the highest offered by Remington, and each one was a hand made firearm, with the engraving and inlay on their own representing upwards of 80 man-hours in the hands of a master gunsmith. Dual ivory sight beads on the vent rib, with a cylinder choke, the two line patent and address markings on the right side of the barrel, and the 2 3/4 inch chamber markings on the reverse. A 6 inch wedge of scroll engraving with punch-dot background is present on each side of the breech, incorporating banners which surround the markings. The model and serial number markings are hand engraved on the underside of the receiver, which shows over 98% coverage of fine scrollwork, with punch dot backgrounds, a dogs head on the trigger guard, floral patterns on the trigger guard retention pins, and a starburst design on the rear of the operating handle. Each side features a three-panel game scene with gold animals; the left shows a field scene with hills in the background, a pheasant in flight in the left panel, two dogs in the center, and a duck in flight on the right, and a similar field scene on the right, with a walking grouse in the right panel, two dogs in the center and a woodcock in flight in the left panel. On the left side, in the scrollwork under the dogs, is the engravers mark "..E.". Fitted with an extra-fancy high grade walnut stock, featuring sharp checkering on the beavertail forearm and pistol grip, integrating curved and sharply angled border lines, a Remington grip cap with Fleur-de-Lis accents, an untouched gold inscription panel on the underside, 13 3/4 inch pull and a rubber Remington buttplate.
BBL: 25 inch vent rib
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 28
Finish: blue

Serial Number: 4006555
Condition: New. Only a few mild collector handling marks are visible, but this shotgun looks like fresh factory product, not the 40+ year old treasure that it is. The engraving and gold inlay are every bit the product of a master, beautifully executed, sharp and crisp like the day it was done. The wood exhibits sharp fine checkering and a highly desirable superb wood grain. A masterpiece that is worthy of the finest collections. An unbeatable piece from the James Tipton Collection.
