According to the included notarized letter from LTC (Ret) Thomas Johnson, author of several texts on German edged weapons, this is a quality example of a Weyersberg 1943-1945 production lion pommel officer's sword. 33 1/2 inch blade, with a rounded spine, Weyersberg mark on the left ricasso, and etched panels on each side, with a Nazi eagle and helmet on the left, and a banner reading "Fur Her und Oflicht, bis herz und klinge bricht" (For Honor and Duty, until heart and blade break) on the right. Gilt brass hilt, with a Nazi eagle on the right languet, "UG" inscribed on the left, raised scroll decoration, lion head pommel with red glass eyes, and a wire wrapped grip.
