A) Produced in 1975, these shotguns are a sequentially numbered set of Premier Grade Model 1100 shotguns. The Premier, or F, grade was exclusively the product of the Remington Custom Shop, with masterfully hand-fitted components and superb embellishment. Each arm in this lot bears a sequential serial number, and is signed and dated "RPR 75" on a rock in the center panel on the left side of the receiver. Robert Phoenix Runge started his engraving career with Parker Brothers, moving to Remington along with his father in 1934, and would spend nearly 50 years with the firm before his retirement. According to estimates provided by Remington engravers, a Premier engraving job could take 40 hours, meaning this set represents 200 hours of work, over a month of committed labor by a master engraver. Ivory front and nickel mid bead sights, with a Remington Special Skeet choke, the two line address on the right side of the barrel, and the 2 3/4 inch chamber markings on the reverse. A 6" wedge of scroll engraving with punch-dot background is present on each side of the breech, enveloping the markings with decorative panels and terminating with a leaf border pattern. The receiver shows over 97% coverage of fine scrollwork, with textured backgrounds, leafy vine border designs, floral patterns on the trigger guard retention pins, a dog's head on the underside of the trigger guard, and a leaf design on the rear of the operating handle. A set of three banners are present on the left side, with "MATCHED SET OF 4" in the front, "Remington MODEL 1100-SF" in the center, and the serial number on the right. Each side shows a multi-panel game scene; a rolling field scene on the left, with a pheasant in flight in the left panel, 2 dogs (and the Runge signature) in the center and a duck in flight on the right, and the right side has a scene of rolling hills, with game birds in flight in the side panels and two dogs in the center. Fitted with an extra fancy high grade walnut stock, featuring sharp checkering on the extended beavertail forearm and straight wrist, integrating spade and flare patterns into the border lines, a black grip cap with white diamond inset, an untouched gold inscription panel on the underside, 14" pull and a Pachmayr Presentation Model solid recoil pad. The 410 Gauge has a 2 1/2" chamber, otherwise all four are virtually identical in configuration and decoration.
