Exceptional Matched Pair of Engraved Spanish Percussion Pistols -A) Engraved Spanish Percussion Pist
A) Two high quality, matched, European smoothbore percussion pistols. The pistols are Spanish made and are relief chiseled. The barrels are silver inlaid with what appears to be: "Le Herraduras/Por Arriaran/Enl Eybar" in script on the barrel flats. The pistol barrels have cannon style muzzles with coined bands. The browned barrels are octagonal at the breech and have nine flats at the muzzles. The front portion of the barrels are engraved with gold washed floral designs. A coin-edged band on the center of each barrel has relief floral engraving with gold inlays. The wedge-fastened, European walnut stocks have finely checkered grip panels. The relief chiseled hammers are shaped in the form of a stylized lion with open jaws. The pistols have one-piece backstraps and pommels. Each pommels is fitted with a lanyard loop. The hammers, lock plates, backstraps, pommels, trigger guards and ramrod pipes are finished bright and decorated with intricate relief engraving. The floral and scroll engraving on the backstraps, pommels and lock plates have gold inlays. The flat bottom trigger guards are relief engraved with armor and stands of arms on a gold-inlaid background. The pistols have ebony ramrods with flared ivory tips and steel slotted and threaded bases.

Traces of gold remain on the pommels, trigger guard finials and ramrod pipes. The stocks are both in very fine condition with moderate handling and storage wear. The checkering on the grip panels remains sharp. This is a high quality matched pair of Spanish percussion pistols in very fine, original, condition.
