This is an excellent example of a Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter revolver that was manufactured in 1902. The revolver is accompanied by a Colt Factory letter, photograph and personal letter. The revolver has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame and hammer are color case-hardened. The two-piece grips are ivory with a relief carved head on the right grip. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the elongated block letter address "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The bore diameter "44" is stamped on the underside of the barrel just in front of the frame. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-date/two-line patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The assembly number "181" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. A "W" inspection mark is stamped in the hammer well. The full serial number "227085" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match. The factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length and finish with the type of stocks not listed. The gun was part of a 10 gun shippment that was shipped to M. Hartely & Company, New York, New York, on June 3, 1902. A letter from a previous owner states that this revolver once belonged to Ira Hill and this revolver was carried by Hill on an African hunt. With the letter is a photograph of Hill on this hunt and he is wearing a holster which holds this Revolver.

The case colors on the frame, loading gate and hammer are vivid. There is some light flash pitting on the sides of the hammer but no finish wear. The frame screws are in excellent condition with most of the niter blue finish. The pearl grips are in very fine condition with crisp relief-carved ox head. There is a reglued chip on the bottom of the left grip. The markings on the barrel and frame are sharp. The action is crisp and functions perfectly.
