Exceptional Documented Colt Single Action Flattop Target Model Revolver with Factory Letter

Estimate: $45000 - 65000
Colt Single Action Flattop Target Model Revolver with Colt Factory letter that states this revolver was shipped to R.H. Shayer on October 25, 1909. The letter describes the revolver as caliber .32/20 with 7 1/2-inch barrel and blue finish. The type of stocks and the shipment address are not listed in the letter. The revolver has the distinctive flat top frame with flat sides and dove-tail mounted rear sight. The front sight has a solid base with adjustable, removable, brass blade. The trigger and back strap are standard Single Action components. The revolver has the high polish, commercial blue finish with case-hardened hammer. The hammer has a knurled, bordered spur. The two-piece black, hard rubber, grips are checkered and have the Rampant Colt logo in an oval near the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." and the left side is roll-stamped: "32 W.C.F.". The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "Three-Date/Two-Line' patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt logo. The Colt 'Triangle/VP' proof mark is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow and a "W" assembler's mark is stamped on the left rear. A "C" inspection mark is stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. The assembly number, "12" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The serial number, "162893" is stamped on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "2893" is scratched on the inside of both grips. All of the visible serial numbers match. Colt manufactured a total of 925 Flattop Target Model Single Action revolvers between 1888 and 1895. Factory records indicate that 30 of the Flattop revolvers were chambered for the .32-20 WCF cartridge.
