Exceptional Confederate issue rifle made by Dickson Nelson and Company marked “C. S.” and “ALA” dated “1863” or “1865” on the rear portion of lock. Note: the stamp is incomplete and there are differing opinions whether it is a 3 or 5. The metal surfaces show some scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting with pitting mostly occurring on the edges of the barrel. The lock shows a light gray patina with slight pitting. The brass mounts show a honey brown patina and areun-cleaned. The stock is very good with some small losses along the ramrod channel, dings, dents, mars and small losses and the right side of the butt stock is neatly stamped “J. S. Crossy” . Also the right side of the butt stock is neatlystamped “Crossy”. The original sling swivels are retained. An old ramrod which may be the original is included. There is a small crack in the wood by the tang. An exceptional example of a desirable Confederate issue arm (Refer Flayderman 10-032).The collection of William A. Gary consigned by his estate. Est.: $12,500-$25,000
