This extraordinary example of a Colt Model 1902 (Military) Semi-Automatic Pistol was manufactured in 1912. The pistol has the high polish Colt commercial blue finish on the slide and frame with niter blue trigger, slide lock and small parts and casehardened hammer and lanyard loop. The black checkered hard rubber stocks have "COLT in a ribbon at the top and the encircled Rampant Colt in the middle. The eight-shot magazine has a dull blue finish. The pistol has the distinctive square butt with lanyard loop on the left side, slide lock and eight-shot magazine which distinguishes it from the Model 1902 Sporting Semi-Automatic pistol. The slide has a dovetailed rear sight with round top and rear serrations. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines ahead of the ejection port. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the third style making with "PATENTED/APR. 20. 1897. SEPT.9.1902." in two unequal lines followed by "COLT"S PT. F.A.MFG. Co./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." in two lines. The circled Rampant Colt is located on the left side of the slide behind the grip serrations. The left side of the frame is stamped with the serial number, "34298" above the trigger guard. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the Colt "triangle/VP" proofmark and a "W" assembler's mark.
BBL: 5 3/4 inch
Stock:
Gauge: 38 Colt auto
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 34298
Condition: Excellent plus. The pistol retains 99% of the bright original high polish blue finish. Wear is limited to some very minor finish loss on the muzzle end of the slide. Nearly all of the fiery niter blue finish is present on the trigger, rear sight and other small parts. The barrel also has nearly all of the original blue finish and the bore is bright. The markings on the slide and frame are crisp. The lanyard loop and spur hammer have 95% or more of the original case colors. The hard rubber grips are excellent with some slight age fading. The magazine is fine with about 90% of the dull blue finish. This is an exceptional example of a pre-WWI Colt Model 1902 (Military) Semi-Automatic pistol that would be difficult, if not impossible, to improve upon.
