This is an exceptional example of a Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver manufactured in 1865. The revolver has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish on the barrel and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, frame and hammer and silver-plated brass trigger guard and back strap. The one-piece walnut grip has a high gloss varnish finish. The six-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene and "COLT'S PATENT/9141". The top barrel flat is marked " ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA." and. "COLTS/PATENT" is marked on the left side of the frame. The left shoulder of the trigger guard is marked "31 CAL" and the left upper front of the trigger guard is marked with the letter "P". The pistol has all matching serial numbers; with the full serial number, "279141" stamped on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap: the partial serial number "9141" stamped on the cylinder and cylinder pin, and the wedge is marked "79141". Brass cone front and hammer notch rear sights. The diminutive Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver was the largest selling Colt percussion firearm and many Model 1849 revolvers were privately purchased as personal sidearms by soldiers during the Civil War.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel and cylinder retain 98% of the bright original high polish Colt blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear on the barrel and some mild thinning on the cylinder. There are a few minor dings on the right side of the barrel lug from past attempts to remove the wedge and some scattered minor scratches. The cylinder scene is all intact and remains crisp. The hammer retains 80% original case colors with a smooth gray patina on the top and the frame retains 99% original bright case colors, while the loading lever retains 80% with a smooth gray patina on the forward portion. The trigger guard retains 95% of the original silver plating with some thinning, while the back strap retains 50% with a pleasant aged patina on the exposed brass. The grip is excellent with 98% original varnish, showing some lower edge wear and a few small minor dents. The markings remain clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
