Excellent quality Italian fowling piece with gold hallmarks on the barrel and lock showing Royal Crown and made in Napoli. The barrel is fancy inlaid in gold with the year 1768. The gun measures 50 ¼” overall with nearly 36” barrel ofapproximately .60 caliber smoothbore or 16 gauge. The gun is full stocked to the muzzle and shows beautifully raised carved scrolling around the tang, mounts and comb. The metal surfaces are a bright original polish and the lock and mounts are nicely engraved with chiseled detail on the frizzen and back of the lock with a beautifully made cover for frizzen screw showing a face. The tang and the butt plate are also nicely engraved. There is a good amount of scroll gold inlaid intothe barrel. The metal surfaces show their original bright polish and are very good plus to near fine condition. The stock is also very good plus showing some excellent restoration and very sharp and high carving. The lock is in its originalflintlock configuration and shows a safety mechanism that works with the hammer. Est.: $5000-$10,000
