This is an excellent example of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 U.S. Army revolver. It features fixed sights consisting of a forged round blade front and a notch frame cut rear sight. The top of the barrel has the two line S&W address/patent dates. The left side of the barrel is marked "S&W DA 45", the underside of the barrel is marked " "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" "and the bottom of the butt is marked "U.S./ ARMY / MODEL / 1917 / No / 16 / 014". The upper left rear side of the frame has the monogram "GHS" final inspection mark. The matching serial number is marked on the butt, barrel, and rear cylinder face. The crane and frame are marked with the assembly number "7922". Fitted with smooth oil finished walnut grips.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 98% plus original blue finish with a small area of surface rust present on the left side of the frame where there are several very small scratches, just above the trigger, a few minor scratches on the upper back strap, a few light scratches on the barrel and a minor drag line on the cylinder. The hammer and trigger retain 98% original case colors with loss limited to some normal usage wear on the trigger. The grips are excellent with a small chip on the left toe and a couple of minor scratches. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent.
