This is an excellent example of a WWI German luger pistol that was manufactured by the Imperial Arsenal at Erfurt in 1918. These pistols have a rust blued finish with the straw colors on the various small parts such as the magazine release button, trigger, safety and take down levers and the ejector. The chamber area is dated 1918 and it has the standard "Crown/ERFURT" marks on top of the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the standard Crown over script proofs next to an Imperial Eagle proof. The top front edge of the barrel extension has the small sight cut, typically intended for the rear portion of the artillery rear sight, and as seen on many 1917/18 dated lugers. This luger is fitted with a correct Erfurt barrel that is proofed with the Erfurt "Crown over script letter" proof and a "Crown over RC" mark on the top left side of the barrel indicating a serviceable luger part that approved by the Royal Commission. The right top rear section of the barrel also has a small WWI Imperial eagle test proof. The overall pistol exhibits the typical Erfurt Arsenal rough machining and rust blued finish with many of the smaller parts having the Erfurt "Crown over a script" letter proof. The pistol has the standard fixed front and rear sights and the extractor and safety are properly marked with "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN". It is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips and it has a WWI era nickel plated magazine with the wooden base marked "8583".
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 8624s
Condition: Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots overall, with some actual thinning of the blue finish on the center section of the barrel and grip straps. Straw colors are original and remain 50% intact. The grips are in very fine condition overall with a nice matching dark brown color on both grip panels, with even honest wear across the front edges of the grips and the tops of the checkering. This luger has all matching numbers except the magazine, as noted above. A nice example of a late WWI luger.
