Model 1911A1 Semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Colt in 1944. This pistol was one of 4000 pistols shipped from Colt to the Springfield Armory between June 28 and July 11, 1944. The slide and receiver have a gray-green, parkerized finish. The barrel and magazine are blued. The checkered stocks are brown plastic 'Coltwood'. The receiver feed ramp is bright. The slide is correctly not marked with the pistol serial number. The pistol has the late, seven-rib mainspring housing, wide hammer with borderless, knurled, spur, checkered safety lock and slide stop and stamped trigger. The 'Coltwood' grips have wide reinforcing rings surrogating the stock screws; the stock interiors have strengthening ribs and mold numbers. The right side of the receiver is stamped with a lightly struck Ordnance escutcheon behind the stocks. "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No1621122" is roll-stamped in two lines behind the slide stop hole and "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" is roll-stamped in front of it. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with an "X" assembly mark above the Colt triangle "V/P" proofmark. The Ordnance final inspection mark "G.H.D." is stamped vertically on the left side of the receiver below the slide stop and a "P" proofmark is stamped behind the magazine release. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the slide between the rear sight and the ejection port. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the Colt 1897-1913 patent dates in two lines followed by the Rampant Colt trademark and "COLT"S PT.F.A.MFG.CO./HARTFORD,CT.U.S.A." in two lines. The blued barrel has "COLT 45 AUTO" stamped on the lower left side of the chamber and a "P" proofmark on the lower left side of the lug. A small "F" is stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the lug. The magazine has a full-blue finish and is unmarked.
