Excellent U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle with Bayonet
An excellent example of a completely unaltered Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle. Blade front and 1884 Buffington rear sight with proper "R" marking, on the barrel which is marked "A" on top and "V/ P/ eagle head" proofs on the left rear side. Low arch breechblock, marked "US/ MODEL/ 1884", two-piece trigger guard, serrated trigger, three-click tumbler and casehardened lock plate marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" next to the American Eagle. Smooth straight grip stock, with boxed "SWP/ 1889" cartouche on the left wrist, , a small "D" sub-inspectors and script circled "P" proof behind the lower tang, sling swivels and a "U.S" stamped buttplate. With a blue U.S. marked 1873 socket bayonet and original ramrod with slotted button tip.

Condition: Excellent, with 97% of the original blue finish, showing minor wear on the edges, some dulling of the blue on the lock plate, and scattered minor spotting and handling marks. 99% of the original case color remains on the tang and breechblock, with minor edge fading, otherwise bright and vivid. The stock is excellent, with the stacking and front sling swivels bent, scattered minor scuffs and storage dings. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet retains 95% plus original blue finish with some scattered minor surface rust overall. Overall an excellent example of a late production U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle.
