Excellent U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle with Sling

This is an excellent example of a Model 1879 Trapdoor rifle manufactured in 1883. Blade front sight and ski-slope rear sight graduated to 1,200 yards and marked with an "R" on the upper left side of the blade and left side of the base. The barrel has the standard "V/P/eagle head/P" inspection marks with an "R" on the top. Low arch breechblock marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" next to an eagle with shield. Smooth straight grip stock with two barrel bands, "SWP/1883" cartouche, and a small "W" and circled "P" behind the lower tang, and smooth "US" marked buttplate, and sling swivels. With the correct iron cleaning rod with slotted button head and leather sling.

Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 97% original blue finish with some thinning on the lower tang and barrel bands. The breechblock retains 90% of the original case colors with some fading to gray. The stock is also excellent with some scattered minor dings and sharp cartouche. The sling is good with overall moderate to heavy age cracking. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
