Excellent U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1888 Rod Bayonet Trapdoor Rifle
The rear of the barrel is correctly marked with the "V P eagle head P" proof and inspection marks, with the top of the breech marked with the letter "A". The top of the breechblock is marked "US / MODEL / 1884" and the lock plate is marked with the American Eagle next to "U. S. / SPRINGFIELD". The heel of the buttplate is marked "US". The oil finished walnut stock is marked with the boxed "SWP / 1891" final inspection cartouche on the left wrist. A circled "P" and the letter "M" are stamped in the grip area. The rifle has a Buffington rear sight, blade front sight, one piece trigger guard, serrated trigger, ramrod bayonet and smooth buttplate with a trapdoor (tools included).

Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 95% original blue finish thinning to a plum patina with some scattered minor spotting. The breechblock retains 90% plus original case colors. The stock is excellent with some minor pressured marks, dings, and scratches. The stock cartouche is crisp. Mechanically excellent.
