Excellent U.S. Hall/Harpers Ferry Model 1819 Hall Breech-Loading flintlock Rifle

Estimate: $7500 - 9000
The Hall Rifle is a significant U.S. military firearm. The Model 1819 Rifle was the first breech loading military arm produced in large quantities and adopted as a regulation weapon by the U.S. Military. It was also the first firearm successfully made with completely interchangeable parts thus defining what we call today "the American system of manufacture". This Model 1819 Rifle is a Second Production Type made from 1826 to 1838 and has a "1838" dated breechblock and pin-fastened barrel bands. The rifle barrel, receiver and furniture were a brown finish. The breechblock is marked: "J.H. HALL/ H. FERRY/ U S/1838" perpendicular to the bore. Blade front and dovetailed "v" notch iron rear sight sights, correctly off set to the left. Mounted with a full black oil stained walnut straight grip stock. Complete with an iron button head cleaning rod.

Many of these rifles were subsequently converted to percussion firing mechanism. This is an excellent totally original example the Model 1819 U.S. Hall rifle that would be difficult to improve on.
