This is an excellent example of an early 1929 Swiss commercial contract Luger as manufactured by Waffenfabrik in Bern, Switzerland. This pistol was produced in the first block of serial numbers (P25,000-P2,660), and still retains it's original 7.65 mm Luger barrel. These commercial 1929 pistols were intended for sale within Switzerland and have a very distinctive straight angular grip frame, wider grip safety, a flat, almost cast or stamped thumb safety lever, flat non-checkered magazine release catch, with a turned or rebated front section of the barrel extension that matches the outside diameter of the barrel shoulder. They also lack the checkering or knurling on the sides of the toggles. The chamber is unmarked and the toggle has the "Swiss Cross in a Shield". The barrel is correctly numbered on the side of the shoulder and has a small "Swiss Geneva Cross", acceptance proof on the underside with the full serial number on the left side frame rail (and not on the front end) and again on top of the rear toggle. There is a small "Crown/M" on the right side rail and a small "Swiss Geneva Cross" acceptance proof on the major components indicating acceptance at the Bern factory. Complete with two Swiss nickel plated magazines marked with a single script "P" proof on the spine, with the brown unmarked plastic base plate and an original Swiss leather holster and shoulder strap.
BBL: 4 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 30 Luger Auto
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: P25423
Condition: Excellent with 97% of the original matte blue finish with edge and high spot wear overall. The grips are also excellent with nice sharp checkering. The holster and shoulder strap are in very fine condition with nice tight stitching showing only minor scratches and handling marks on the face of the leather. A nice representative example of a late production Swiss Luger pistol.
