Excellent Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver
Brass cone front and frame notch rear sights, with "PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858/ E. REMINGTON & SONS . ILION NEW YORK.U.S.A./ NEW-MODEL" on the top flat of the barrel, and small, block "M" sub-inspection marks on the left flat, left side of the frame, rear cylinder face and on the underside of the grips. No final inspection stamp, suggesting a martial contract over-run sold on the civilian market. Fitted with a casehardened hammer, niter blue trigger, brass trigger guard and smooth walnut grips.
BBL: 8 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 43129
Condition: Very fine, with 85% of the bright original blue finish, with flaking to a brown patina, concentrated on the lower half of the barrel, a cylinder drag line and scattered spotting and handling marks. Traces of casehardened color remain on the hammer, with a mellow aged patina on the slightly bent inward trigger guard. Grips are very fine replacements, pencil numbered to a different revolver, with some light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
