Manufactured from 1883 to 1907. The medium weight 30 inch full octagon barrel is fitted with a blade front sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y." at the breech, the left side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT/OCT 7TH 1879", the matching serial number "4271" is marked on the lower tang and bottom barrel flat under the forearm, and "45.70" ahead of the forearm. Blue barrel, niter blue breech block, hammer, trigger, and casehardened frame. Mounted with a smooth forearm with silver forend and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with a crescent style buttplate.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains 97% bright original blue finish. The breech block and hammer retain almost all of the original bright niter blue finish. The receiver and trigger guard retain 95% plus original bright, vivid case colors with some fading on the trigger guard and lower tang. The buttplate also retains 98% original bright case colors. The wood is also excellent with almost all of the original finish remaining and showing some minor dings and scratches. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent. A very attractive Remington Hepburn Rifle in the very desirable 45-70 caliber.
