Excellent Factory Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver

Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver manufactured in 1860. The revolver has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish on the six-inch barrel and five-shot cylinder, casehardened loading lever, frame and hammer and silver-plated brass trigger guard and back strap. The one piece walnut grip has a highly polished piano finish. The barrel has a brass cone front sight and the hammer spur has border-less knurling. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend "{ ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY}" in two lines. "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped in two lines on the left side of the frame. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Hold-Up Scene and "COLT'S PATENT". The full serial number, "174537" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap and on the side of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The loading lever is not serial numbered. The revolver is complete with a factory mahogany case with red velvet lining. The case has five compartments and contains: (1) a 100 cap, black japanned tin of percussion caps embossed "ELEY BROs/LONDON" on the lid, (2) a .36 caliber, blue iron bullet mold marked "COLT'S/PATENT" on the sprue cutter and "36 P" on the right block, (3) standard 1849 Pocket Model flask with fixed charger embossed with "COLTS/PATENT" above an eagle with a revolver in its talons on both sides of the flask body, (4) blue L-shaped, combination nipple wrench/screw-driver and (5) key.

Excellent. The revolver is all original and retains 95% of the high polish blue and color casehardened finish. The barrel has several small patches of flaking on the sides and top but retains most of the commercial blue finish. At least 90% of the blue finish and all of the Stagecoach scene are present on the cylinder. The loading lever, hammer and frame have 95% or more of the vivid case colors intact. Most of the fiery, niter blue finish is present on the screws and trigger. The brass trigger guard and back strap have about 40% of the delicate silver plated finish intact. The number "40" has been painted or etched on the bottom of the grip strap. The grip is in excellent condition and has nearly all of the highly polished piano finish. The case exterior is in very good condition with some minor scratches and one light water stain on the lid. The interior is in fair-good condition. The one hinge is missing one screw and has one poorly fitted nail replacement. The lining is faded and dusty. There is a small tear in the lining from contact with the front sight and a stain from contact with the cylinder. The cap tin is in good condition and retains some percussion caps. The Colt Navy bullet mold is in good condition with moderate finish wear. The powder flask is in good condition and retains about 30% of the original finish. Most of the blue finish is present on the nipple wrench/screwdriver. This is an excellent example of a Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with factory case and accessories.
