Manufactured in 1949, the second year of production for the Second Series Target Model. The left side of the barrel is marked with the one line address, the left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt over "WOODSMAN" and the slide is marked "COLT" followed by the two line caliber designation, with the serial number on the right side of the frame. The right side of the frame has been factory inscribed "BJR". The initials stand for Beverly Jean Rhodes who was an Archivist at the Colt Historical department. The pistol is accompanied by a typed letter certifying that the pistol was part of her personal collection since 1992 and after acquiring the pistol had her initials "BJR" engraved on the left side of the slide, (an apparent error on her part), and that the engraving was done by Steve Kamyk, who was on staff as a Master Engraver at the time. The letter is signed by Rhodes and Steve Kamyk's signature is on the letter for verification. The pistol has the standard ramped blade front and adjustable target rear sights, serrated trigger, push button magazine release, blue Colt marked magazine and fitted with checkered "Coltwood" target grips with right hand thumb rest and back strap adaptor. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, caliber, 6 inch barrel, blue finish, grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 to William A. Schmalz in Rockville, Connecticut on December 1, 1948. In remarks the letter states "It is historically significant to note that Mr. Schmalz was employed by the Colt company and held the position of Chief engineer in charge of product development during this time period." Complete with an original brown hinged lid box with gold embossed Rampant Colt on the lid and gold "COLT" on the inside of the lid, manual, "Shooting Suggestion" pamphlet, brush and a second grip adaptor.
