Excellent Civil War U.S. Model 1863 Lindsay Two Shot Musket
This excellent original Model 1863 Double Rifle-Musket was manufactured by J.P. Lindsay of New York. Lindsay manufactured approximately 1000 of these two-shot muzzle-loading percussion rifle muskets in 1863-1864 and limited numbers were actually issued to Federal regiments during the Civil War. The musket has double hammers and percussion nipples with a single trigger. The musket has a round barrel with the standard blued, two-leaf folding rear sight, three screw-fastened barrel bands and a tulip-shaped steel ramrod. The semi-octagon breech is marked: "LINDSAY/PATENT'D. OCT. 9. 1860." The heel of the buttplate is stamped "U.S.". The barrel, bands, hammers, trigger guard and buttplate are "National Armory Bright". The stock is oil finished black walnut. Two oval, script "ADK" Ordnance inspection marks are stamped on the left stock flat.
