Excellent Cased London Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver with Accessories
Colt manufactured these London revolvers between 1853 and 1857. This particular revolver was manufactured in 1856 with the large round iron trigger guard and backstrap. The top barrel flat is marked "---ADDRESS. COL. COLT. LONDON.---" and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT". British "crown/ V" and "crown G/P" proofs are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug just ahead of the wedge and it is marked with the same proof marks on the cylinder alternating between each nipple. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas naval scene and marked "COLTS PATENT No 42385". The complete matching serial number is stamped on the loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and wedge, with the partial serial number "385" marked on the arbor pin. The frame and loading lever are casehardened and the remaining parts blue. Equipped with brass pin front and hammer notch rear sights and fitted with smooth one piece varnished walnut grip. Complete with blue velvet line wooden case with brass circle initial shield on the lid and Colt Firearms London label affixed to the inside of the lid. Included are brown lacquer powder flask uniquely marked "FOR COL. COLT BELT PISTOL" around the neck, (writer has seen only a few of these!), iron two cavity bullet mold marked "COLTS / PATENT" on the sprue, a brass oiler, Eley Bros. 500 count cap tin (partially full) and an unopened original box of 6 combustible envelope cartridges manufactured by the Colt Cartridge Works.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains 97% original bright blue finish with some flaking and minor pitting on the muzzle, high edge wear, a few minor dings around the wedge and a few minor scratches. The cylinder retains 80% original blue finish with loss due to flaking, and showing a smooth brown patina on the exposed areas. The scene is crisp and clear. The backstrap retains 30% original blue finish with the balance having a smooth mottled gray patina. The trigger guard retains 80% original blue finish with some flaking and minor spotting. The frame, loading lever and hammer retain 98% bright original case colors. There is a small gouge on the left front of the grip, otherwise the grip is excellent with 99% original varnish, which is beginning to craze, and a few small minor dings and dents. The markings are sharp and clear. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The case is very fine with a few minor dings and dents on the exterior and minor contact wear on the lining. The cap tin shows some heavy wear, otherwise the accessories are very good, except for the mold, which is refinished.
