Manufactured from 1863 to 1865, this is a 5th Model Carbine featuring the noticeable guide screw in the center of the right frame that allows smoother operation of the breech as it rides in the corresponding curved groove on the breechblock. Pinned blade front sight and two-leaf rear sight graduated to 500 yards. Top of barrel has traces of the cast steel marking. The top of the frame is marked "BURNSIDE PATENT/MODEL OF 1864" and the lock is marked "BURNSIDE RIFLE CO/PROVIDENCE - R.I." Breechblock is numbered to the gun and most of the components have single letter inspector marks. Smooth forearm and stock with the left wrist stamped with two clear and crisp cartouches (EPR, RKW) and the underside of the wrist having a clear "RKW" inspector marking.

Condition: Excellent, appears unissued. The barrel retains 95% plus original blue finish overall. The tangs, breechblock and trigger guard retaining 90% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The frame, hammer and lock retain 97% original case colors. The wood is excellent with some scattered minor storage dings. The cartouches are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
