Excellent Bullard Lever Action Small Frame Repeating Rifle
Designed by James H. Bullard, these rifles were manufactured in competition with those produced by Marlin, Whitney and Winchester. Marked "BULLARD REPEATING ARMS COMPANY / SPRINGFIELD. MASS. U. S. A. PAT. AUG. 16. 1881" on the left side of the receiver. The caliber "Cal/38" is marked on the top of the receiver and the serial number is marked just behind the hammer. The serial number is also marked on both tangs under the stock and pencil marked on the wood in the top tang slot. Gold washed Beach combination front sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The hammer, lever and trigger are casehardened while the remainder is blue. The forearm and straight grip stock are smooth American walnut with an iron forend cap, nice tiger strip pattern on the stock with a hard rubber Bullard buttplate. All matching numbers.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains approximately 90% of the original blue with a cleaned area about mid-point with some light, fine pitting. Area over the front of forearm is somewhat dulled. Magazine tube retains most of the original blue. The receiver retains about 90% blue, thinning on the upper tang. The lever retains strong casehardening colors on sides, brilliant in protected areas and the hammer retains about 95% strong colors. The wood is sound with a couple of scratches on forearm and a small chip with minor handling and use marks on buttstock and retains most of its strong original oil finish. Mechanically crisp, bright bore.
