Excellent 21st Empress of India's Lancers Officer's Czapka

This is an extremely rare Victorian officer's lance cap. The skull and peak are of black patent leather. The cap waist is encircled with heavy gold lace. The mortar board is of smooth "French gray" melton cloth with ridged sides. The top is crossed with gold bullion cord that extends down the angles to the waist. The peak is stitched with gold bullion lines and the skirt encircled with gold lace. The heavy bullion plume boss has the "VRI" cypher exclusive to the 21st and supports a white stitched swan's feather plume with a ring. The lion's head ear bosses suspend a black velvet lined gilded chin chain. The gilded rayed helmet plate backs a silver insignia cluster topped with the Royal Arms of Great Britain and Victorian crown backed by crossed lances with pinons. The sides have laurel sprays. At the bottom center is the regimental title banner "21st LANCERS". The center of the back waist is fixed with an acanthus leaf chain hook and cap line ring. The cap is lined inside in crimson silk and marked with the maker's mark "SANDILANDS & SON". With a gold bullion cap line.

Condition: Excellent, the cap shows little wear overall. The liner has some minor staining. The cap lines are also excellent with some scattered small areas of fraying.
