European Wheellock Pistol with Attractive Bone, Pearl and Wire Inlaid Stock
Produced with a fixed rear sight and an empty front dovetail, the top flat is decorated with a gentleman's bust with a faint inscription below and raised border work at the top and bottom, along with a light floral pattern at the breech. The lock plate shows light filed grooves at the top, with a retention piece to the left of the wheel, light file work on the hammer spring and a sliding flash pan cover. Removal of the aforementioned lock plate assembly leads the writer to believe this to be authentic and not of Victorian origin as the trigger assembly actually does the spanner release sear mechanism. Single trigger, offset to the right, with a long trigger guard. Smooth stock, with a bone tip, ramrod head, ramrod pipes, all scrimshawed, with brass wire border, scroll and floral designs, animals in pearl and bone overall, and a ball pommel with 7 male busts on the sides. The overall length of the pistol is 24 1/4 inches.
