Engraved Matching Pair of 18th Century Saxon Flintlock Holster Pistols with Carved Stocks -A) Saxon Flintlock Holster Pistol

A) This matching pair of quality Saxon flintlock holster pistols have been identified as being made by George Esher of Dresden c. 1730-1750. The underside of each barrel flat is struck with George Escher's distinctive Acorn touch mark (Stockel #4819 page 145 Vol.2). This touch mark can be viewed on one pistol by removing the lock and the other pistol the barrel must be removed to see the touch mark. The pistols have half-round .54 caliber smooth bore barrels with nickel silver blade front sights. The pistols have rounded lock plates with integral fenced iron flash pans and goose neck hammers. The pin-fastened European walnut stocks are relief carved with elaborate scroll work. The stocks feature horn forearms and engraved brass furniture. The tailpipes, side plates, butt caps and trigger guards are decorated with heavy Germanic style scrollwork. A shell motif is engraved on the tops of each barrel and the barrel tangs are engraved with single line borders. The lock plates and hammers have engraved single line borders. Each pistol is fitted with a wooden ramrod with horn tip.
