Engraved German Martini Single Shot Schuetzen Rifle
This German Schuetzen Target rifle features and octagon shaped barrel with a flat matte top rib and six rounded ribs, There is a sling swivel mounted on the bottom, shrouded front post sight. The rear of the top flat widens and is grooved for possible sight mounting. The rear of the flat is silver inlaid "A. Kaydt Aicbach" and there are floral and wire pattern silver inlays at the breech end. The upper left side is marked "GUSS" and the right "STAHL". The number A17622 is present on the face of the receiver and under the barrel, both of which are concealed underneath the forearm. The Martini action, top rear of the breechblock and lever/trigger guard are relief engraved with floral and vine designs with a matte background. In addition the left side of the action features a 18th Century hunter and a woman carrying steins of beer on the right side. The right front upper edge of the action is marked with a "CROWN/U" and "crown/B" proofmarks. The barrel was blue and remaining parts casehardened, Double set triggers and mounted with a walnut forearm with floral design carving on the forend and Tyrolean style stock with a checkered area on the right side with decorative carved border, sling swivel and Swiss style buttplate.

Condition: Good. The barrel has a smooth mottled brown patina with traces of original blue in protected areas. There is some moderate pitting over most of the metal, most noticable on the rear of the top flat. The remaining surfaces have a smooth brownish gray patina. The tang sight has been removed. The wood is good with a number of minor to moderate dents, minor dings and scratches and the stock is a bit ill-fitting on the left side at the action. Almost all of the silver inlay remains. The engraving remains good. The action is fine.
