Engraved C. Pirko Over/Under Percussion Rifle with Silver Inlaid Barrel Bands

The upper barrel is marked "C. PIRKO IN WIEN" and is equipped with fixed sights. Both barrels have a wide band of engraving accented with three silver inlaid bands at the breech. Ramrod pipes holding a wooden ramrod are located on the right side between the barrels. The action components feature a floral scroll engraving with game scenes on the lock plates. The right lock plate is marked "C. PIRKO" and the left lock plate is marked "IN WIEN." The upper tang, which is also engraved, features a crown over "FJ" monogram on a gold inlaid oval. According to the consignor notes, "FJ" is for Emperor Franz Josef of Austria which makes this the Emperor's personal gun circa 1850. We cannot confirm this. A hunting dog is engraved on the trigger guard and has a walnut extension. The straight grip stock is checkered and has a cheekpiece, patch box with walnut cover and flat iron buttplate with a scroll and dog engraving on the tang.

Good. The barrels have a smooth refurbished brown patina over pitting with rust at the muzzles. The remaining metal surfaces have a bright appearance with a crisp engraving. Minor pitting is present (mostly on the barrels) and the barrel marking has been re-cut. The stock is fair with a crack in the wrist, worn checkering and a number of pressure dents.
