English big-game single shot sporting rifle built on Martini Henry style commercial action in .500 express caliber marked Walter Locke & Co., Calcutta on the left side of the receiver and hand engraved number 7391 on the right side. The barrel shows a raised and matted rib with 3 leaf folding express type rear sight. The barrel measures 28 ½” and the rifle measures 44 ¾” overall and is of medium weight serial numbered 50998 on the action. The rifle retains 50% to 70% bright original bright blue on the receiver which is drifting at the edges with some losses and going to a natural patina. The metal surfaces show some minor scratches, the trigger guard shows 50% thinning blue, the lever shows strong traces of case hardening. The barrel shows 30% to 50% blue drifting to a brownish patina. The stocks are very good plus with crisp checkering, a few mars and scratches with normal use but at least very good plus. The forend cap is made of horn. The rifle is mounted with eyelets for hook type sling swivels. The action is tight and works well. The bore is at least very good plus and may clean considerably. A very attractive English big-game rifle made in the colonial era. Est.: $1400-$2800
