English Officer’s style private-purchase percussion carbine by Brooks & Son, Birmingham, England. .72 caliber, 31” round barrel, 47” overall, full stocked to the muzzle with brass mounts, all in Britishmilitary style with unusual and rare side-mounted spring bayonet. The gun shows a British type crown in the center of the lock, Birmingham proofs on the breech, and the barrel is browned and the lock case hardened. The barrel shows 50-70% thinning original brown finish, the lock shows 30-50% case hardening going ot patina with some faint original colors. There is some scattered light erosion and minor surface pitting juststarting. The stocks are very good plus to near fine with a light coating of varnish but no sanding. And an expert repair to the expert repair to the forend on the left side which is almost imperceptible. An original to the period ramrod is included. We speculate that this was an officer’s private purchase to carry to the British colonies. Est: $1,500 - $3,000.
