Enfield style percussion rifled musket probably private purchased by military officer in fine original condition showing most of its original blue and case hardened finish with select checkered Walnut stocks and original wood case. The top of the barrel is engraved Isaac Hollis & Sons makers to her Majesty’s War Department. The lock is marked J. Aston. The rifle measures 48 ½” overall with 33” barrel and is .451 caliber. The barrel retains 95% plus bright original blue finish with just some slight toning and dried oil and beginning age. The lock shows 75% to 85% original case hardening evenly drifting and toning. The trigger guard shows traces of original color and the butt plate shows traces of case hardening. The stocks are very good plus to near fine with crisp checkering and just minor handling and storage marks. The rifle shows little use and the bore is excellent. Also all small parts are retained including ramrod and nipple protector. There is a silver shield inlaid into the stock intended to be inscribed with owners name. The case is lined in green felt with partition style interior showing a very ornate makers label in the lid with the name Isaac Hollis and the British national crest with advertisement “Contractors To Her Majesty’s War Department” with other dealer information. The interior of the case is in very good condition showing some tatters, small losses, wear at contact points and normal aging. The label is very good plus to near fine with slight staining and discoloration and a few teeny losses. The case retains an original leather sling only and mold and other accessories missing. The exterior of the case is darkened oak with brass hinges and screws. The exterior of the case is good to very good with some scratches, small losses at the edges. The key plate has been removed and the lock is not working but retained. A very impressive and fine condition rifle made for military use at about the time of the American Civil War.
