Enfield style .58 caliber percussion two-band rifle with provision for saber bayonet. Lock shows “DC” and anchor marking. Brown patina finish, wood stock, The rifle shows iron front and rear band, brass triggerguard, with large sling swivels. The lug for bayonet is numbered “2337”. The metal surfaces show a brown to grey patina finish, scattered light to moderate surface pitting, some heavier pitting the breech and a few areas on the barrel. The stock is good with some light cleaning long ago with steel wool. Traces of inspector marks on right center of stock. Some losses along ramrod channel and a hairline crack in the belly of the forend behind the rear barrel band extending back approx. 5 to 6”. An area behind the tang shows an old replacement of wood and shows a wood dowel pinned done during the period of use and there is a small repair of wood in front of the nipple using two small nails and replacing the original chip. There is a brass shield with American eagle screwed into the top of the wrist just behind the tang. The ramrod is a replacement. A desirable configuration of the Enfield style .58 caliber musket, which was probably imported and used during the Civil War.
