His name was Albert Johnson, but RCMP officers who spent weeks chasing him in the Northwest Territories and the Yukon in 1932 nicknamed him The Mad Trapper of Rat River. Johnson, a fugitive who shot and killed a police officer, eluded them until the day police got him in a shootout on the Eagle River in the Northwest Territories.

Cold Lake resident Wally Wolfe has brought this chapter of Canadian history to life in comic book form in Encounter on the Eagle.

Wolfe was drawn to Johnson's story by the drama involved and by the fact that, apart from his name, nobody knew anything about Johnson, which is still the case today even after he was exhumed in 2007. Johnson, a former bush pilot, was also interested because of the setting.
