This lot includes an early American drop leaf, secretary pen table or writing desk in the Empire style. The console shows gorgeous mahogany grain, which sets off the carved slab construction nicely. The simple, yet elegant trestle feet of the table are joined by a thick stretcher, and are mounted to rollers. The table which sits steadfast on the legs has two simple drop leafs, which are propped by stow-away wooden pulls, one of the desk pulls has been repaired. The desk itself has a one sided storage drawer, with faceted glass pulls, on the other side of the desk, you can see the same glass pull handles for a faux decorative drawer. Above the storage drawer, there is a hidden writing compartment, with a felted flip-top writing surface, and paper storage underneath. To the right of the writing surface, there are two pen compartments. The table is in good condition, though it does have wear indicative of age. The table top shows water staining, and one of the pull handles on the faux drawer is broken off. With the leafs folded down, the desk measures 22 3/4" wide, 19" deep, and 30 1/4" tall.
